November 2010 Open Meeting

  • Licensee and Ownership Changes (in alphabetical order):
    • George (Spring Bank West): The licence has transferred to Stephen Merrylees.
    • Olde Corn Exchange (North Church Side): The licence has transferred to Enterprise Inns PLC.
    • Wild West Show Bar (Witham): The licence of the former King’s Arms has transferred to Witham to Carl Shakesby.
    • General (in alphabetical order)
      • Burlington Tavern (Manor Street): The pub will re-open in December and there are plans to sell 4 real ales.
      • Endike (Endike Lane): The pub has reopened and is selling Marston’s Pedigree, Mansfield Bitter and Wychwood Hobgoblin.
      • Engineers Arms (Bridlington Avenue): The new licensee has no plans to sell real ale.
      • Flowerpot (Staveley Road): The pub is selling Mansfield Bitter at £1.95 per pint.
      • Hop & Vine (Albion Street): The pub is to have a Gunpowder Plot themed Beer Festival on the 5th and 6th November.
      • Nelly’s (Scale Lane): The pub is now selling cask ales at £1.50 per pint from Sunday to Thursday.
      • Staks (Beverley Road): It was reported that a real ale had been introduced.
      • Whalebone (Wincolmlee): The wall above the stove had suffered from a small fire, but it was believed that minimal damage was caused.

    October 2010 Open Meeting

    • Licensee and Ownership Changes (in alphabetical order):
      • Duke of York (Sutton): The new licensee is Jackie Hinchliffe.
      • Engineers Arms (Bridlington Avenue): The new licensee is Alan Foster (previously at the Station Inn on Beverley Road).
      • Polar Bear (Spring Bank): The pub has a new tenant; but their name is not known yet.
      • Station Inn (Beverley Road): Alan Foster has left and former barman Lee is now the licensee.
      • General (in alphabetical order)
        • Apollo (Holderness Road): It had been noted that the real ale being sold (from the Marston’s portfolio) is a regularly changing one.
        • Bull & Bush (Green Lane): The pub has stopped serving real ale and the licensee has blamed the preference for chilled beers during the warmer weather.
        • Cross Keys (Beverley Road): Good reports were received concerning the quality, and a recent supply of Bombardier had sold out remarkably quickly.
        • Hastings (Spring Bank West): It appears that the pub is no longer selling real ale.
        • King’s Arms (Witham): The pub, situated near North Bridge, has re-opened as the Wild West Bar.
        • Wheelhouse (Beverley Road): Phil Birtles reported that he had experienced unexpected early closing on Mondays recently.

      September 2010 Open Meeting

      • Licensee and Ownership Changes (in alphabetical order):
        • Rugby Tavern (Dock Street): The new licensees are Stephen and Tamar Woods.
        • General (in alphabetical order)
          • Larkin’s Bar (Newland Avenue): The bar is now open and is serving 2 real ales. They hope to always have one available from a local brewery.
          • Minerva Hotel (Nelson Street): Several attendees reported the quality of the cask ale at the pub had been a cause for continuing concern, it was particularly noted that availability seems to vary depending on public events being held.
          • Three Tuns (Boothferry Road): The pub has reopened after a long period of closure, but no real ale is available at the moment.

            • Aussie Beach (Beverley Road): Mark Canet-Baldwin is the new licensee of the former Hockney’s.
            • Bull (Beverley Road): The pub currently has a temporary licensee.
            • Half Way House (Spring Bank West): The license has reverted to Enterprise Inns PLC.
            • Hustler's Pool Hall (Prospect Street): The new licensee is Mark P Cardwell.
            • Polar Bear (Spring Bank): The license has reverted to Marston's PLC.
            • Propaganda (Ferensway): Future Proof Pubs Ltd (of the same address) now has the license.
            • Greenwood (Greenwood Avenue): The license has reverted to Enterprise Inns PLC.
            • Olde Black Boy (High Street): Adam Scruton has now been officially confirmed as the licensee.
            • Punch Hotel (Queen Victoria Square): The new licensee is Leila Bolton.
            • Rayella's (Prince's Dock Street): The new licensee is Mandy J Vellelonga.
            • Society Bar & Grill (Newland Avenue): The license has reverted to S & N Trading Ltd.
            • Spirit (George Street): George Street Pubs Ltd (of the same address) are now the licensees.
            • Sportsman (Hedon Road): Rebecca Richards is the new licensee.
            • Three Tuns (Boothferry Road): The new owner is Silverwood Developments Ltd; a Surrey based real estate developer)
            • Wheelhouse (Beverley Road): The temporary licensee has signed a 6 month lease, and is optimistic of getting a long term lease.

              • Grange (Grange Road): The pub is currently closed and boarded up.
              • Minerva Hotel (Nelson Street): Reports suggest that the real ale is not always available.
              • Wassand Arms (Wassand Street): The pub has re-opened and is selling Polish and Latvian beers.
              • Wheelhouse (Beverley Road): The pub is now selling a changing guest beer.

            June 2010 Open Meeting

            • Licensee and Ownership Changes (in alphabetical order):
              • Wheelhouse (Beverley Road): A temporary licensee is currently running the pub.
            • General (in alphabetical order)
              • Burlington Tavern (Alfred Gelder Street): The new licensee had suggested that he would be reintroducing real ale, but nothing had appeared as yet.
              • City Hotel (Alfred Gelder Street): The pub is now selling a regularly changing guest beer.
              • Falcon (Falkland Road): The new licensee has advised that she has reintroduced changing guest beers.
              • Gardeners Arms (Cottingham Road): Two more handpumps have been installed.
              • George (Spring Bank West): The pub was being advertised for sale.
              • Halfway (Spring Bank West): The pub had been closed for about three weeks.
              • Hastings (Spring Bank West): The pub had no real ale when visited on the 2nd June.
              • Hockney’s (Beverley Road): The pub has re-opened with a new name -- Aussie Beach.
              • Hop & Vine (Albion Street): The pub will be closing on Sundays with immediate effect.
              • King Edward VII (Anlaby Road): The pub, situated on the first floor, above Diva’s Bar, is to reopen according to signage on the ground floor entrance.
              • Lamp (Norfolk Street): The pub’s guest beer now appears to be a regularly changing beer from Saltaire Brewery.
              • Old Picture House (Beverley Road): The pub is to be renamed the “Hollywood & Vine” and will have live music seven days a week.
              • Rising Sun (Beverley Road): The licensee has added a second real ale from the Marston’s range.
              • Rose (Beverley Road): The pub was advertising Tetley Bitter being available at £1.50 a pint.
              • Wheelhouse (Beverley Road): The pub is now selling Tetley Bitter.

            May 2010 Open Meeting

            • Licensee and Ownership Changes (in alphabetical order):
              • Station Inn (Beverley Road): The license has returned to the previous manager, Alan Foster.
            • General (in alphabetical order):
              • Goodfellowship (Cottingham Road): Ringwood Fortyniner and Old Thumper had been on sale recently, and Paul Alterskye is to check whether they are now regulars. If they are, the change in product range would be welcome.
              • Home Farm (Willerby Road): Paul Alterskye reported that his previous report of good beer quality was no longer appropriate following a vast deterioration in quality found on a recent visit. John Heckford commented that on his last visit, only Black Sheep was available.
              • Lambwath (Sutton Road): No real ale on sale although the pumps are still in place. It was commented that they stopped the sale of real ale as quickly as it started.
              • National (National Avenue): The pub had been closed recently for a few days and this was thought to be due to Health and Safety issues. The licensee had recently acquired Cask marque accreditation. Wells Bombardier is now available on a regular basis.
              • Pennine Rambler (Pennine Way): The pub is being advertised to let, yet a skip has been seen with fittings already being disposed of.
              • Priory (Priory Road): The pub had no real ale during the weekend of 1st and 2nd May 2010. This was thought to be due to the change of licensee.
              • Spring Bank Tavern (Spring Bank): The pub was again reported as not having real ale available. This was thought to be the fault of the senior partner being absent from the business.
              • Scruffy Murphy’s (Beverley Road): The former pub now has a banner adverting “Flats to Let” and is thought to be being converted although the ground floor is still boarded up and would be in keeping with the restrictive covenant preventing further sales of alcohol from the premises.
              • Twilight (Witham): The former Kings Arms is now closed and a “For Let” sign is on the building.
              • Zetland Arms (Portobello Street): A sign on the building now states that it “must be sold”.

            April 2010 Open Meeting

            • Licensee and Ownership Changes (in alphabetical order):
              • None
            • General (in alphabetical order):
              • Falcon (Falkland Road): The pub is now only selling John Smiths Bitter and Tetley Bitter.
              • New Clarence (Charles Street): The licensee no longer has Cask Marque accreditation.
              • Spring Bank Tavern (Spring Bank): The pub was reported to have recently being running out of beer and when they have had some, the quality has been poor.
